Setting up WispOS
The first time you open WispOS, Wisper walks you through setup herself: where your HQ lives, which brain she runs on, what she remembers, and bringing in the work you already have.
The first time you open WispOS, Wisper’s walkthrough opens by itself. She leads it, one step at a time, and you can stop halfway and pick up where you left off: setup remembers which steps are done.
The steps
1. Hello
Wisper introduces herself and what she does. Nothing to decide yet.
2. Your HQ’s home
Your HQ is the folder where Wisper and your teams keep their work. Pick where it goes. If the folder doesn’t exist yet, or is empty, setup lays out a fresh HQ in it when you say so: a short manual for Wisper, a README, the roster, and empty files for the Queue, Decisions, action items, the project list and the decision log.
Setup never overwrites anything. If you point it at a folder that already has some of these files, it only adds the ones that are missing. A folder that already holds something else entirely is refused rather than mixed into.
See Your HQ folder for what each file is.
3. Her brain
Choose the AI Wisper thinks with. Claude Code and Codex are agents that can work inside your HQ and act. Models you run on your own computer (Ollama, LM Studio, a llama.cpp server) and online services with an API key can talk, but can’t run HQ’s scripts or touch files, and the list says so next to them. More in Choosing Wisper’s brain.
4. Memory
Decide what Wisper keeps. You can change all of it later in Settings → Memory.
5. Bring in your work
Setup can look for the projects already on your computer and list them. Tick the ones you want Wisper to know about. Nothing is moved or written here: your choices become a request in Wisper’s message box, and you send it when you’re happy with it. See Projects.
6. The tour
A short spotlight tour over the real screens.
Running setup again
Open quick open (⌘ K on a Mac, Ctrl K on Windows) and type Setup. You can replay Wisper’s walkthrough, the tour, or a single step (brain, memory, bring in your work).
Moving your HQ
Your HQ’s location is in Settings → Folders. If the folder it points to goes missing, the app tells you and offers to set up a new HQ there.
